Being able to share stories is what keeps authors writing! I thoroughly enjoy seeing children’s faces when they see my books and hear the story. Story time sessions are also an opportunity to provide additional language and story telling support to all children. The experience I have gained over the years working as a speech pathologist within early childhood settings has been invaluable and helped me to create engaging activities to use alongside my books.
If you would like me to come to your early learning centre or library, I am more than happy to chat about a suitable program for you. Some ideas include:
Option 1:
Length: 30 minutes
⭐️ Story reading where I invite kids to join in by answering or asking questions, or telling what they know about Australian animals! We may even have an action break – who doesn’t like to walk like an emu?!
⭐️ Craft activity – I have a range activities that include the characters from my book such as colouring pages or finger puppets which can be used for craft after the story. We can discuss a suitable activity for your group.
Option 2:
Length: 45-60 minutes
Story reading and craft + your choice of one of the following activities:
⭐️ Language – This could include learning new vocabulary, building sentences, describing or fun facts about Australian animals.
⭐️ Story telling – children can practice their own story telling skills by retelling Goannas Are NOT Gawky, adding their own ending or set of problems.
⭐️ Early literacy – activities designed to support children’s pre-literacy skills such as phonological and phonemic awareness or letter-sound knowledge.
⭐️ How to draw animals – for older kiddos who are ready to get their art on!
